Summer Series 2021: The Shaping & Structuring of Space

Hi everyone!

I’m Catherine, an MA student in history at the University of Toronto and the word study student with Canada Constructed for summer 2021. I’m excited to share and interact with you over the next few months.

I would like to introduce our 2021 summer series, “The Shaping and Structuring of Space.” Each week, on our social media, we will feature one national and one international site to learn about and interrogate the history of the built environment inside and outside of Canada. In this blog, I will be posting weekly blog posts on the national sites and monthly blog posts on international sities to offer deeper anlyses of the historical and architectural elements of each space. You can follow our journey here:

Follow our “My Map” to track the sites we visit each week.

My own research focuses on the history of Canadian missionary education in Angola and has brought me into contact with missionary architecture outside of Canada. Through the international posts, I will bring my own research and passion for history into contact with Canada Constructed.

Get ready for our first post tomorrow on the Hoop Dance Gathering Place located at Mohawk College in Hamilton, ON! Check out our social media for a sneak peek: Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

I look forward to our journey as we traverse well beyond ‘brick and mortar.’
